What You Need to Know This Week

  • Harley-Davidson is temporarily halting all production except for electric motorcycles due to supply chain issues.

  • Our own Oliver Bruce spoke to Alison Griswold of Oversharing about what is coming next for micromobility: “There's going to be this Cambrian explosion of new vehicle types that will change what's available to people who live in cities.”

  • And our very own Horace Dediu (a.k.a. “Mr. Micromobility”) spoke to Zag Daily about the same: “The main reason we should be excited about micromobility is because it’s going to become ubiquitous. It’s inevitable. The reason it’s inevitable is because mobility is a human right.”

  • Superpedestrian and Helbiz tap data intelligence firm Populus to work on safety standards with USDOT.

  • “E Source estimates battery cell prices will surge 22% from 2023 through 2026, peaking at $138 per kilowatt-hour, before they resume a steady decline through 2031”

  • Most of Vancouver is already a 15-min city.

  • Guns have surpassed cars as the leading cause of death for American children.

  • Rotterdam is trialing a cargo bike program for residents to use on their weekly trash run.

  • Any Italian company that purchased a cargo bike for its daily activities in 2021 will now be able to receive up to 30% of the total expense, up to a maximum of €2,000.

  • Tailpipe emissions make up the bulk of ICE contributions to pollution, but EU legislation in the pipeline is targeting another culprit: brake-pad particles.

  • Public transit and private micromobility are symbiotic services. Cities like Denver are proving that if you build the right incentives, riders will come.

Pod People

New pod! This week Oliver Bruce interviewed Mark Frohnmayer, CEO of Arcimoto. They discussed the latest progress with the vehicles Arcimoto is building—like the FUV—and where they’ve got to with future vehicles like the Mean Lean Machine.
