Webinar: Tracking the War for Micromobility Data

Data never sleeps, not even during a pandemic.

While cities have ground to a halt due to Covid-19, the debate between public and private micromobility players over trip data—who should have access to it, how much of it, and when—continues to unfold in lawsuits, municipal hearings, and the press.

Tracking systems like the Mobility Specification Data program, or MDS, have made it possible for transit agencies to collect real-time location information for dockless bikes and scooters.

Transportation officials say they need this information to effectively regulate shared mobility services that operate on public streets. But some civil liberty advocates have raised privacy concerns, warning that MDS and other formats could be abused to track the movements and whereabouts of riders.
